Peace

Foundational
Value

What is Peace:

Peace is the intention and the achievement of defeating aggression, overcoming antagonism,  and ending conflict with accord.

Peace is accomplished through the power of Grace, the Patience of the Persevering, the Courage of Leadership, and the Trust of a Worthy Heart.

The pursuit and winning of Peace, where there was once discord, and bloodshed; is Life building, Life Loving.

Peace embodies the Essence of God; putting Love into Action, Love into the world to soften hearts and sharpen minds; to bring harmony where violence reigned; to bring accord where war  ravaged; to bring tranquility where strife tore societies.

Peace serves Humankind.

Peace is a Cornerstone of Civilization.

In our World History, from ancient times of stone cultures, up to the present day of modernity there have been Two Constants, War and Peace.

It has been the nature of Man to concurrently engage in both, throughout all history; as differing Wills and counter Aims have been at odds since Time Immemorial.

The consequences have been Bitter Conflicts, Local Wars, World Wars, and Death, and more Death.  Yet, there has also been Resolution through Peace.

Underlying the waves of conflict and blessings of compromise, has been the slow ascension of Human Reason, the growth of Values in the Cultures, the evolution of Law and the recognition of Diplomacy instead of Warfare.

And remarkably, through the scars of War, and the healing of Peace, Humankind has evolved.

However, even now, blood continues to be spilled all over the world.  The horror of conflict and terrorism is constant, as Evil works its dirty hands; sowing distrust amongst Nations and Peoples.

Thankfully, in the midst of it all, there are the Peacemakers.

They may  come from Powerful Nations, Fervent Leadership, or just simple Common Folks who emerge from some remote corner of the world. They step forth, to Inspire us with Truth and remind us that Peace and Love must always Triumph in the End.

Blessed are They, for their fruit is Hope, and their Hope brings Life, and that Life

yields the Next Generation.

In our present day, when minor conflict can quickly rage into Thermonuclear War in a matter of hours, the need for Peace is Paramount; or else the human race will simply not survive.

Examples of Peace:

Finding and making Peace takes Leadership and Conviction.  The evil in humanity seeks division, animosity, distrust; all of which leads to violent ends, to destruction, to murder and human suffering.

Examples of Peacemakers are:

  • Malala Yousafzai (1997 – ) Pakistani schoolgirl who overcame an assassination attempt by the Taliban. She campaigned for universal access to education and is the youngest person to be nominated for The Nobel Peace Prize in 2013.

  • Leo Tolstoy: Author of War and Peace and committed to principles of non-violence. His literal interpretation of the ethical principles of Jesus Christ led to the creation of his non-violent philosophy. Tolstoy’s writing had a big impact on Gandhi and Martin Luther King.

  • The Principal, who intervened in a schoolyard fight, and settled the dispute with words instead of fists.  Peace can come in small moments.

Anti-Value: Violence

Violence is the opposite of Peace.

Violence, invariably leads to Conflict, Injury,  and many times to War.

Violence is Anger moved to physical action.  That action is  destructive to the value of Peace supporting Life.  Violence can take many forms: none of them kind, none desirable. Violence can be done  to other human beings, to innocent animals, to races, creeds, or even to our planet.  The violent deny dignity to their victims.

When Violence mounts, it results in:  harm, abuse, killing, mayhem, plundering, rape, starvation, beatings, concentration camps, genocide, aggression, hatred, and War.  It turns man against man, woman against woman, child against child;  wrecking civilizations, and destroying peaceful coexistence in its wake.

Those who are Violent or cause Violence in the world are despicable and they shall meet a fate that reflects their hatred, a destiny of pain that exceeds many times what they have wrought on Earth.

Biblical References of Peace:

  • Matthew 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God”

  • Psalm 34:14: “Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it ”

  • Romans 12:18: “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”

  • Philippians 4:7:  “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

  • John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid”
