Fidelity
Foundational
Value
What is Fidelity:
Fidelity is faithfulness to a person, cause, or belief, demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support.
Yes, it does mean fidelity to your husband or wife, your boyfriend or girlfriend, your family.
Yes, it does mean to your Country, your Employer, your Civic Associations, and your Church.
Fidelity is when YOU create a commitment and don’t break it ….. unless of course there is a
material threat to you or your children’s Safety.
Fidelity means you don’t cheat on your relationship, it means you don’t compromise your faith, it means you stay loyal to your Friends or to your Organization; provided there is no
legitimate or moral reason to break that bond.
Examples of Fidelity:
Fidelity is commitment based on truth, honesty, and trust. It is a commitment that should never be traded for a lie, a deceit, or an act of betrayal.
Examples of Fidelity Include:
-
The Loving Couple, joined and forever faithful.
-
The Student, loyal to the school’s standard for not cheating, nor tolerating others who do.
-
The Government Intelligence Officer who resists all attempts on him to spy for another county.
-
The Christian who would not betray his faith under threat of torture, or death.
-
The Husband and Wife, who strive to stay together through the years of growing old together.
Anti-Value: Disloyalty
Disloyalty is the opposite of Fidelity.
Unfortunately there are many forms of Disloyalty in Life.
People make promises, set commitments, and then sometimes they break them. Motivated by greed, envy, lust, or money: they are willing to destroy relationships in a moment for personal gain.
Disloyalty of the Heart: Cheating on a committed relationship, or worse Adultery in marriage, are particularly hurtful. These acts involve personal severances of Trust. In the case of Adultery, it’s not just Betrayal to the Spouse, but more damaging, a Dishonor to a Commitment made to God.
Disloyalty to an Employer, Organization, Country, Community, Faith, Friend, Family, or set of Principles, is equally repugnant; as it is a violation of oath, of Trust, and personal integrity.
Disloyal People undermine their commitments, as well as, other people; either through their actions or deviously done through gossip, slander, marginalizing, ridicule and outright untruths.
Beware the Disloyal.
Biblical References of Fidelity:

-
1 John 2:1-29: “I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: ...”
-
Proverbs 18:24: “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother”
-
Ruth 1:16-17: But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.”
