Examples of Balance:

In order to learn, grow, and develop, We need to have Equilibrium in Our Lives.  We need to have a calmness of Mind, Body, and Sprit to be able to take the time and concentrate on the

Right things.

Examples of Balance are:

  • The Chef, who knows how to assemble the right balance of flavors, textures, ingredients to achieve extraordinary meals.

  • The Coach, who knows how to instill confidence, calmness, and relaxation into an agitated mind, a broken spirit.

  • The Professor, that guides the nascent minds to new heights.

  • The Best Friend, who cautions us about excess.

Anti-Value: Hostility

Hostility is the opposite of Balance.

Hostility to Oneself and the Body, like in: Suicide, Self-Mutilation, Drugs, Alcohol, Insatiable Desire, Gluttony.

Hostility to the Mind, as in:, Rage, Anger, Resentment, Envy,  Jealousy, Antagonism.

Hostility to the Spirit, as in: Rejecting God, Ignoring the Holy Spirit, Sorcery, dabbling in the Occult.

Hostility towards Others, as in: Violence, Torture, Bullying.

Hostile People are Dangerous to Themselves and to the Innocent.

Biblical References of Balance:

  • Proverbs 25:28: “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.”

  • 2 Peter 1:5-6: “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,”

  • 2 Timothy 1:7:  “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control”

  • 1 Corinthians 6:18-20:  Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

  • Titus 1:7-8: “For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined”
